2008/769 Review of Australian breeding programs for Pacific Oysters, Sydney Rock Oysters, Barramundi and Prawns

By Nick Robinson

This project entailed a review of on-going and planned Australian breeding programs for Pacific Oysters, Sydney Rock Oysters, Barramundi and prawns (P. monodon). The primary objective for the work has been to assess the technical structure of the selective breeding programs and assess the scope for commercialisation in order to make them less reliant on continued public funding.

Dr Rye reviewed the Australian breeding programs for Pacific Oysters, Sydney Rock Oysters, and Barramundi with respect to technical structure and proposed commercialisation models for securing economically sustainable operations not relying on substantial external funding such as from R&D agencies.
