Mures Fishing Pty Ltd The Mure family has been self-employed in the fish trade since 1965 when they bought the fishing boat "Aquanita". This vessel was licensed to catch Rock lobster and Prawns. In 1975 Mures started Australia's first Mussel farm at Margate, Tasmania and in 1976 the fishing vessel "Melicent" was built specifically to target Blue Eye Trevalla and in so doing Melicent made Blue Eye Trevalla available to the public for 12 months of the year. Mures were responsible for developing this fishery and for making Blue Eye Tasmania's premium fish. When Blue Eye Trevalla went to quota in 1998, Mures were forced to secure their supply by buying 65 tonnes of quota. Mure's two boats "Kiella" and the recently launched 72 foot "Diana" currently catch this quota to maintain a continual supply of fresh, hook-caught product to the Tasmanian market. Mures are the largest quota holder of Blue Eye Trevalla in this high quality line fishery. Ling is a relatively new species to be targeted by their boats and is proving to be very popular. Mures Fishing current factory also has an Australian Quarantine Inspection Service export accreditation for their range of seafood soups and have a number of restaurants in Hobart.
