About the Project
The project is needed to assist with networking future leaders from the Australian Abalone industry at a level that will enhance their ability to deal with issues that the industry constantly faces and to be confident when new and emerging issues arise.
There are few participants in the wild capture abalone sector and of those who participate, there are fewer still who possess the capacity to take on the role of future leaders and decision makers. As such it is vitally important to engage as many of the current and future industry leaders, from across a broad section of the industry to provide them with an opportunity to network with each other and with people they would not ordinarily associate with.
Project Objectives
1. A better understanding by participants of the issues and challenges facing the Abalone sector.
2. A report produced by the participants dealing with young leaders' approach to implementing the Abalone quality assurance program, the next abalone convention and any other projects identified in the Australian Abalone Coun cil's strategic plan.
3. A greater appreciation of the benefits of networking with other stakeholders in the industry.

About the Project
The Seafood CRC was one of the 100 hand-picked organisations to be involved in the national ALife project. The ALife project aims to replace the Careers Guide - a heavy, cumbersome printed book that is given to all school leavers in Australia to assist them in choosing a potential career path and deciding whether further study is required after high school to pursue a chosen career path.
Lifeworks Media developed A-Life™, a cutting-edge, interactive multimedia vehicle using film and contemporary graphic imagery, similar in nature to FaceBook and YouTube, designed to engage Generation X and Y and allow them to make more informed career path choices. All the technology used in ALife can also be downloaded on to mobile phones and iPods allowing the information to reach the target audience in the most effective way.
100 different profiles and diverse career options were presented in the A-Life project ranging from accountancy to clock making to engineering (i.e. white collar to blue collar). The project is also endorsed and hosted by Rove McManus (Australian TV celebrity) and Ada Nicademou (actress on Home and Away and other Australian television shows).
Expansive national distribution of the ALife project saw 3 million DVDs go to all schools, TAFEs and universities in Australia, together with major newspapers as well as back up marketing through an interactive website and a call centre.

About the Project
The whole seafood industry in Australia is poorly qualified when it comes to industry trianing. Much of the industry is a nil entry level employer and this puts the industry at a distinct disadvantage. This project will develop and test the processes for training needs analysis and/or learning environment analysis as part of the CRC education and training strategy.
Project Objectives
1. Encourage CRC participants to identify their education and training as a critical component of their overall continuous business improvement plan by utilising training needs analysis/learning environment analysis template.
2. Ensure that data gathered from the training needs analysis/learning environment analysis is stored, protected and used only to benefit CRC participants.
3. Identify and access cost-effective training programs for business development including utilisation of external funding sources.
4. Pilot the project by the 31st May 2008.
5. Produce a report analysing information obtained and making recommendations for the strategy's development.

Seafood CRC Induction Project |

About the Project
Organisations large or small, should have a well-considered induction programme. Generally the induction programme has to provide all the information that new employees and other need and are able to assimilate without being overwhelming or diverting them for the essential process of integration into a team. In the case of the Seafood CRC it is more about giving all the people involved in the CRC (from the highest level of their organisation, to students through to those working at the "coal face") a sense of udnerstadning and ownership which in turn will ensure the CRC is maximising the wealth of knowledge and experience that there is within the groups.
The need to ensure that all participants understand what a CRC is and does, learn about the Seafood CRC, its goals and people involved, what tools and opportunities are available to them (e.g. website, bursaries etc.), meet program leaders and CRC staff and they can learn how they can engage effectively to maximise their involvement and experience during their time in the CRC.
Project Objectives
1. Confirm the partnership that exists beyween the organisation and the CRC.
2. Help to ensure that people associated with the member has knowledge of the aims of the CRC and how they can participate.
